NEW BOOK! We Need to Talk: A Survival Guide for Tough Conversations

Mental Models cover wins a CommArts award

It may be old news for those of you who subscribe to Communication Arts (confession: we don’t), but the first Rosenfeld Media title’s cover—Indi Young’s Mental Models—was one of seventeen covers featured in their latest Design Annual issue (November 2008). We absolutely love working with our covers’ designer, The Heads of State, and were so pleased when they recently moved to our home town (Brooklyn, NY).

Dave Gray joins our strategic board

We’re thrilled to announce that Dave Gray, chairman of XPLANE, founder of the VizThink conference, and mind behind the Unbook, has joined Rosenfeld Media’s strategic advisory group. Dave can’t help but stretch each medium he touches, and we look forward to his thoughts on how we might reconsider and improve the books (un- or otherwise) we produce. Welcome, Dave!

Our next UX Book Salon: Sunday March 22 in Memphis

Our next UX Book Salon will take place bright and early (8:30am) this Sunday at the IA Summit’s Flex Track Room (AKA the Venetian Room). Bring the UX books you love and hate (yes, even Rosenfeld Media titles), and be prepared to discuss why. We’ll give a few of our own books away, and maybe even spring for some bagels. Follow @rosenfeldmedia on Twitter for late-breaking updates. An RSVP would be appreciated!

Bill Scott’s Interface Engineering webinar now on sale

Last month, Bill Scott taught an excellent Future Practice webinar, “What Every Designer Should Know about Interface Engineering”. He really nailed the topic, and you can see from his interview that he has a knack for getting a great discussion going. The 76-minute DRM-free webinar recording is now on sale; watch and listen on your iPhone or with dozens of your closest colleagues at your next company brown bag.

Next webinar up is on sustainable design, March 25, with Nathan Shedroff.

New book, new webinar on sustainable design

Nathan Shedroff’s amazing career has taken many twists and turns; most recently he’s emerged as one of the design world’s most effective advocates for ensuring that our products and services are designed with sustainability in mind.

Aside from being a wonderful teacher (read Core77’s coverage of his recent talk at the aptly-named Compostmodern event), he’s persuasive; in fact, he recently convinced Rosenfeld Media to stop our practice of individually shrink-wrapping our books.

Now on sale: “Beyond Usability” webinar recording

Christian Rohrer’s webinar, “User Research Beyond Usability” (60 minutes; recorded last January 29), is now ready for purchase. Given that Christian covers a fully integrated “big picture” framework for user research methods, not to mention the interesting topic of desirability studies, it’s a bargain at US$79.
