Shelby Switzer is a civic technologist with a background in community organizing, open source software, and API development/design. They have worked in a variety of roles at the intersection of society and technology, from volunteering with Code for America brigades and running open source conferences and hackathons, working in civic tech and social justice based startups, to currently serving the public as a federal employee with the US Digital Service (USDS). At USDS, they have built API products and data infrastructure at the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), launched open public heath infrastructure projects with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), and led the USDS tech team and open source community supporting Justice40, a whole-of-government environmental justice initiative. When away from keyboard, Shelby can be found reading a good book or hiking with their rambunctious pitbull, Osceola.
