Kassim Vera
Head of Design, Ministry of Culture of the Government of Jalisco

Kassim Vera holds a BA in Industrial Design from University of Guadalajara (Mexico). Since 2019 he has been Head of Design at the Ministry of Culture of the Government of Jalisco, the only government position in Mexico centered in developing public policy for the design community. In this position he has developed, among other things: the first public fund for design prototyping in Mexico; a public fund for digital transition of the arts during COVID-19; design exhibitions; and Plataforma Activa de Diseño or Pad Jalisco (trad. Active Platform for Design), a space for social design residencies funded by the Government of Jalisco. He is design professor at Tecnológico de Monterrey. He funded Emerge MX, a design criticism project whose magazine is distributed in Mexico and some parts of US, UE and Latin America. He has collaborated with enterprises and organizations such as What Design Can Do, BKT mobiliario urbano and Campamento Feria de Diseño Mexicano and has been speaker at Google SPAN and the Copenhagen Institute of Interaction Design. He was part of the first generation of the Creative Leadership Program for Cultural Governance by the British Council Mexico and the University of the Arts London.
