Carol Scott
Trauma-informed researcher

Dr. Carol Scott is a trauma expert. She has been studying trauma and applying trauma-informed approaches for over 12 years. Carol is also an expert person-centered researcher, exploring all the beautiful messiness of being a human for almost two decades, including mental and behavioral health, socio-emotional development, and system interactions. Embodying social work values, she aims to understand the lived experience and empower all people to thrive.

Five years ago, Carol’s career switched to tech. Leveraging her unique expertise, she and Melissa Eggleston now help designers, user experience researchers, and their teams become (more) trauma-informed. As a doctoral-level social worker, human experience specialist, and senior researcher, Carol doesn’t just help design and develop trauma-informed technology; she bridges the gap between clinical user experience and design innovation.

Carol has taught countless people about trauma and human factors, spoken at dozens of clinical and industry conferences worldwide, and won awards for her groundbreaking research. Her diverse skill set, commitment to ethical practice, and dedication to inclusion make her an irreplaceable partner for anyone seeking harm-reduction, person-centered strategies.
