Alexia Cohen is a Venezuelan-American designer specializing in design research, strategic experience design, and service design. Currently maintaining her own design practice in Brooklyn, NY, she brings expertise in applying strategic and participatory design practices to complex problems in international development, the social innovation space, and the private sector.
Most recently, at Dalberg Design, Alexia focused on projects centering on Hispanic and Latine populations in the US and Latin America. Her portfolio includes collaborations with UNICEF on youth mental health in Bolivia, the Inter-American Development Bank on an open data platform, and the Pima County Health Department in Arizona, where she worked with the local community to improve health literacy and outcomes for Latine adults of childbearing age.
With a rich user experience and product design background, Alexia has designed sophisticated digital interfaces and comprehensive products for diverse clients. At argodesign, she contributed to projects for biotech startups like Singular Genomics and established organizations, including Fox Factory, New York Life, and IBM. She currently serves as adjunct faculty at the Products of Design MFA program at the School of Visual Arts, where she guides students through their thesis year.
Born in Venezuela and having spent part of her childhood in Belgium, Alexia brings a multicultural perspective to her practice that enhances her ability to navigate ambiguity in design challenges. She completed her MFA at SVA’s Products of Design program, dedicating her thesis to designing for women in the great outdoors—a project that merged her interests in women’s rights, outdoor spaces, and climate action.
When she’s not designing or teaching, you can find Alexia experimenting with her sourdough starter, crafting intricate pieces in fiber and metal, cycling around Prospect Park, or pursuing her passion for mountain climbing.
