Paul Bakaus is a product engineer, two-time founder, and creative technologist who has spent 20+ years building at the intersection of code, design, and culture. He created jQuery UI in 2007, still running on millions of sites, and one of the first in-browser game engines (acquired by Zynga). At Google, he shipped Chrome DevTools features used by millions of developers, helped speed up the web with AMP, and made it more visual with Web Stories, before becoming Google’s first Head of Creator Relations. Most recently, as EVP of Product at Spotter, he created Spotter Studio and built AI-powered workflows that gave YouTubers back their most precious resource: time.
Today, Paul is the CEO and founder of Renaissance Geek, Inc., a new AI startup slowly emerging from stealth. Its first project is Impeccable, an open-source design skill that plugs into Cursor, Claude Code, and other AI coding tools, giving designers, product managers and engineers the tools and vocabulary to steer AI toward creative, non-AI-slop design.
His current mission: level up all humans with AI by moving the human-AI interface beyond the chat box and building AI tools for everyone, not just engineers.
