I grew up in China and moved at 26 to the US for a PhD program in Anthropology. At 34, I got my PhD and continued with a Postdoc research job in Switzerland, only to find my true passion is outside academia and in UX Research. I focused on ethics and the human lived experiences in projects particularly in e-commerce and virtual healthcare, in part because I live a minority life as an Asian gay man in the US now and lived as a closeted, Han majority life back in China up until 26. The transition from living as a majority to a minority allows me to see ethics, inequality, identity, and DEI in a very visceral manner, as I continue to explore what all these mean in the new spaces of general AI and healthcare tech.
