Trauma is not simply an emotional or psychological response; it lives in the body, stored as sensation, such as pain or tension &#8211; or is a lack of sensation, like numbness. It is deeply contextual and does not impact us all in the same way. <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Trauma is also systemic and structural. Black, brown, unhoused, migrant, trans, and other historically and intentionally excluded groups have disproportionately experienced trauma at the hands of the products, policies, services, and systems that have been created by those in power.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"3\"><b>Some of the forms of trauma include:<\/b>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"4\"><b>Acute<\/b> <b>Trauma<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> mainly stems from a <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">single distressing event<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. The event is extreme enough to threaten a person\u2019s emotional or physical security. Examples include: house fire, car accident, physical assault, etc.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"4\"><b>Chronic Trauma<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> occurs when someone is exposed to <\/span><b>multiple, long-term, and\/or prolonged distressing, traumatic events<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> over an extended period of time. Examples include: long term serious illness, bullying, experiencing ongoing food or housing insecurity.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"4\"><b>Vicarious trauma &amp; secondary traumatic stress <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">stems from <\/span><b>indirect exposure to traumatic events through stories or images<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. Examples include: front line workers who work with traumatized people, researchers interviewing individuals on sensitive topics like domestic violence.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"4\"><b>Collective trauma<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> occurs when <\/span><b>direct exposure to traumatic event(s) impact a group of people, community, or society<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. Examples include: Pandemics, living in a community experiencing ongoing violence.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"4\"><b>Intergenerational<\/b> <b>trauma<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> happens when the <\/span><b>traumas experienced by one generation are passed on to the next<\/b><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Examples include: ongoing impact of alcoholism within a family, impact of historic racism on members of BIPOC communities.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"4\"><b>Complex trauma <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">is a result of <\/span><b>exposure to varied and multiple traumatic events and\/or experiences<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. Complex trauma can, and often does, combine any of the above forms of trauma. Examples include: domestic violence, racism, childhood neglect, childhood sexual abuse.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Traumatization<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> is the initial experience (or experiences in the case of chronic or complex trauma) becoming embedded in the body. <\/span><b>Retraumatization <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">when new stresses activate someone\u2019s existing trauma, leading to that trauma becoming more increased and further
