We've started with a very limited set of participants, and intend to grow that list slowly, relying on invitations from people already included, gmail-style.
But wait: how can something claim to be a zeitgeist for an entire community without being inclusive?
Very good question. And it's my goal to ultimately include as many people from the UX community as possible. But right now, we're facing two challenges, one short-term and one long-term:
- We're still in beta mode. That means there are lots of bugs and other issues to work out. We're still getting our feet wet here, and won't have a smoothly-running operation until the major bugs are gone and we have some experience under our belt.
- This is not an automated service. Each entry requires a fair bit of manual editing to do things like eliminate false results (e.g., getting rid of books that you didn't actually write) and normalizing topics. (In fact, we've not been able to do this yet due to problems with our admin interface.) So, like Google and gmail, we need to handle participation growth very gradually, or we'll drown.
We hope that, if we do things well now, we'll be able to scale up participation over time. In the mean time, if you're dying to get in, you can request an invitation by sending us:
- Your name (first and last)
- Your email address
- How you learned about UX Zeitgeist
Thanks for bearing with us!
